For more than 20 years, successful cartoonist Matt Kindt has written and illustrated creator-owned comics that balance action-packed storytelling with a highly personal creative vision, with titles like BRZRKR (with Keanu Reeves), Apache Delivery Service, BANG! Depth, Ether, Fear Case, MIND MGMT, Folklords, Revolver, 3 stages, Super Spy, and whip gun. Now the acclaimed cartoonist is collaborating with his longtime publisher Dark Horse Comics to launch Stream Housea new shop that will feature Kindt’s writing (and sometimes) art, with stories of crime, science fiction and humor, all told and presented in surprising and untraditional ways.

Flux House’s upcoming publications will come in many shapes and sizes, with each release having a distinct layout, including unique trim sizes with two magazine-sized publications and special print features (like die-cut and furring) and a punched card jacket that reveals a secret message. These publications are personally designed by Kindt to be both books and works of art.

Flux House will be launched in July with MIND MGMT: counterfeit, a new 4-part miniseries from Kindt and artists Farel Dalrymple, Jill Thompson, David Rubín and Matt Lesniewski. The latest series in the conspiratorial and mind-bending universe of MIND MANAGEMENTMIND MANAGEMENT: contraband marks the first time the series has been illustrated by an artist other than Kindt. The all-new series will include variant covers by Jim Rugg, Marguerite Sauvage, Aron Wiesenfeld and Laura Perez, and the bagged variants of MIND MANAGEMENT: contraband will contain a collectible subversive playing card.

Kindt said of the project:

“Flux House is inspired by Fluxus – an avant-garde art movement of the 1950s that was an extension of the Surrealists and Dadaists. The Fluxus movement focused on the creative process and experimental art forms. Their trademarks include accessibility, absurdism and a sense of humor.

If you’ve seen me burn or cut up one of my books during a book signing, you already have an idea of what I mean. Flux House aims to embody all of these elements. It will not be limited by traditional forms of books and printed matter. And the story format will be, as the name suggests, always on the move.

As part of the Flux House agreement with Dark Horse, upcoming works owned by Kindt creators will all be published by the company. Flux House is the latest in Dark Horse’s growing line of prestige editions for creator-owned comics, joining Karen Berger’s Shepherd BooksBrian Michael Bendis’ jinxworldand that of Kevin Smith secret hiding place.

“Matt Kindt is a smart, innovative artist who wants to push the boundaries of the comic book medium,” said Mike Richardson, President and Founder of Dark Horse Comics. “Dark Horse first published their work in March 2010, when a super spy news published on Dark Horse’s Dark Horse Presents Webcomic MySpace. When Matt pitched me the idea of a pop-up imprint with books that would be unique collectible artifacts, I had no hesitation in saying yes.

“I promise you that MIND MGMT: counterfeit is not a prequel, studio-led sequel, or corporate reimagining of that comic you love,” Kindt said. “It’s still weird, paranoid storytelling and was the perfect title to launch Flux House with.”

In MIND MANAGEMENT, a secret government agency of psychic super spies fell into oblivion after one of their top agents went rogue. What felt like the end was only the beginning as a former MIND MGMT leader explores the darkest parts of the world and recruits a team of forgotten agents to rebuild the organization, circumvent reality and go to war with a competing agency.

“Whether you’ve followed Kindt’s career or are new to his storytelling, Flux House will deliver compulsively readable stories full of adventure and intrigue, with some very, very weird twists and turns,” said Daniel Chabon, editor at head of Dark Horse Comics.
