Gray MCA Fashion Illustration Preview for Queen Mary 2 Fashion Transatlantic Crossing
The preview of Drawing on style: three masters of elegance will take place aboard the luxurious Cunard Lines flagship from August 31 before the show opens in New York on September 5 for New York Fashion Week.
“The influence of fashion illustration is as important today as it was in the 20the century and this exhibit brings a wonderful synergy to the fashion repertoire presented on board, ”said fashion writer Colin McDowell, who will be delivering an exclusive talk to accompany the exhibit during the crossing.
Artists featured include historical and current fashion illustrators. Kenneth Paul Block (1924-2009) worked at the end of the 20e century with Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein and others. Bil Donovan, contemporary American illustrator, has collaborated with Vogue, Dior and The New York Times. Jason Brooks is British and studied at Central St Martins. He counts Elle and Chanel among his clients and has published two books.
The preview was organized in association with Clarendon Fine Art. Gray mca holds his sales exhibition Draw on style annually at New York Fashion Week, giving international collectors a chance to source fashion art. It runs until September 10 at the Cheryl Hazan Gallery.
McDowell adds, “Today’s contemporary illustrators owe a great debt to the modern masters of the genre from which they draw inspiration. The fashion illustration records the elegance, grace and style of each generation.
