CAIRO – March 13, 2022: On March 13 at 5 p.m., celebration activities and the exhibition “Return of Unknown Cartoonist Mostafa Muharram Bey Mokhtar” will be launched at the Public Library of Egypt in Giza.
The event is organized by the Caricature Memory Project, in cooperation with the Central Administration for Literary Affairs and Competitions of the Supreme Council of Culture, to celebrate the 138th anniversary of the birth of the late artist Mostafa Muharram Bey Mokhtar .
The exhibition runs until March 20 and includes more than 150 rare caricatures of Mostafa Muharram, as well as numerous photographs and documents, a set of original color drawings, all presented for the first time in public exhibition, and a collection of anthropomorphic and sculptural works. for the late artist, which were performed especially for this event by Emad Abdel Maqsoud, Ragda Jawad Hegazy and Islam Zaki.
During the opening ceremony, famous pieces of Eastern and Western music will be presented, and the Egyptian cartoonists participating in the exhibition, as well as the entities and individuals involved in its organization, will be honored.
The celebration also includes many activities over the course of 8 days.
The closing ceremony, which will take place on March 20 at 5 p.m., will include a signing ceremony for the second edition of the two cartoon books by Mostafa Muharram and a musical segment presented by a Rouh choir.
It should be noted that Mokhtar received his primary education in Cairo, where the family lived in the Sayeda Zeinab region. He traveled to France and obtained a law degree at the University of the Sorbonne in 1914. He participated in the first exhibition of caricatures organized in Egypt in 1917.
Mokhtar died on April 26, 1954.
